The Domaine des Hardières consists of 23 hectares of vineyards located to the north of the Layon. The vines, which have an average age of 28 years, are grown organically, with regard for the environment, land, and terroir. The vines have been organically converted since 2016. The vineyard is cultivated with Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chenin grapes. Cabernet accounts for 60% of the vineyard, while Chenin makes up 25%. The vineyards reap the full benefits of the Layon valley, particularly the fall mists, which allow the Chenin to overripen, a trait synonymous with superb dry whites and sweet wines. Cabernets on the slopes are well-exposed and ventilated. The slope also encourages drainage, which limits excess water in the soil and promotes the water stress required for red wines to reach maximum phenolic maturation. The terroir is ideal for wines with character and ageing potential.
Discover the Layon valley with a wine tasting from the schist terroir. The estate and its vineyards overlook the Layon, a tributary of the Loire, and enjoy misty mornings and bright afternoons. Its extraordinary terroir has inspired a never-ending pursuit of quality in its wines: a vineyard entirely on slopes, well exposed and well drained, with schistous soils that allow for good ripeness.
The estate is now organically certified, and it promises to conserve the benefits of its terroir for many years to come.
To preserve our terroir and biodiversity, we decided to switch our vineyard to organic cultivation in 2016. This means that we use no chemicals and respect the land, enabling the diversity of our terroir and grape varietals to shine through.
